in the garden front, i have some hyacinth bean flowers. the squash plants have started to vine on the trellis. half of my nigellas are now seed pods, while the other half are flowers. by the time they fade, i will have some striped mallows to take their place. i also brought my potted rosemary today, figured it'd do better in the community garden, with more light than my backyard.
i returned home by 10am. lauryn finally left around 10:15am, leaving me privacy to use the bathroom and take a shower afterwards. i got to the cafe a little bit after 11am.
today was busy, but my mother was hoping it'd be just as busy as last friday, when it was super busy. my sister put up a sign on the sidewalk billboard sign about zongzi for sale and also let people know on instagram, so throughout the day we got zongzi orders. my mother said she finished a while bottle of plum drink yesterday, which caused her to go to the bathroom multiple times. today she was drinking some 烏梅汁, hoping for similar results. my mother already made some tea eggs this morning, while i supervised a batch of boba pearls and cooked some black soy sauce noodles twice. i refilled the drink fridge. i sorted a box of chinese noodles.
binbin called in the early afternoon. my mother said she could make her some sweet zongzi, but didn't have any short-grain glutinous rice, so i was asked to go home and get my own bag of sweet rice that i was saving to make jiuniang. coming back i stopped to pick up some books someone had thrown out (a book about italian cooking, a book about the american revolution by gordon wood) along with a wide-mouth canning jar and a mini mason jar.
my father made me some beef noodle soup but i didn't have a chance to eat it because it got busy (my aunt showed up during that time as well). when i finally ate my noodles, they were already cold and the noodles had soaked up most of the soup.
i left the cafe a bit after 3:30pm. i tried to remove my seatpost clamp because i saw online they sold seatpost clamps that come with rack mounts. that's when i realized the seatpost clamp on my trek bike is integrated into the frame, can't be removed. so the monostay adapter arriving today looks be my best and only option.
the adapter arrived at 4:30pm but when i went to check my doorstep 10 minutes later, it was gone. i did notice jeff was doing something outside, so i intercepted him while he was coming back from the liquor store. turns out he put the package on my back porch and was going to also leave some hard cider as a friendly gesture, but i ruined the surprise.
lauryn came home at exactly 6:04pm, the same time as yesterday. this will probably be the last time i see her, since i probably won't run into her tomorrow morning before i leave for the cafe, and i won't be back home until late monday night.
i didn't have dinner until after 8:30pm, heated a frozen chicken alfredo meal in the oven. i ate while chatting with alex in tokyo. i also tried one of the hard ciders, long way back from the artifact cider project. not too bad, sweet, which is what i like in my hard ciders.
