i went over to the cafe today to see if i could solve the case of the new non-printing samsung multifunction network monochrome laser printer (SCX-4725FN). it worked fine when i tried it out with my macbook pro, but apparently there was some issue with my father's wireless laptop running vista. i didn't have to do anything however, because my father seemed to have fixed the problem on his own, after installing the PCL6 driver for the 4th time. issue resolved, i borrowed the car and went to home depot to get some potting soil and manure to start some seeds indoors. i set up some grow lights in a spare plastic shelving unit in the cafe basement, where there was more room than my overcrowded closet. i'll start potting some seeds tomorrow.

i headed to belmont in the afternoon. there was nobody home when i got there, which was fine with me, since i really came back just to bury myself in verizon's 200+ channel lineup. soon afterwards my mother and sister returned, having taken hailey out for a run at bentley college. i went online and saw the news: that american ship captain held hostage by somali pirates has been rescued. i quickly turned to the news channel to get some live coverage (not too quickly though, it took a while to actually find CNN/FOX). apparently snipers shot and killed 3 of the pirates, while the 4th pirate was onboard the navy ship. last week i actually thought that might be a possibility, but with the waves constantly rocking and the idea that all the pirates would be outside the submarine-like lifeboat just seemed too far-fetched - but apparently that was the plan. the biggest shocker was learning the sole surviving pirate is a 16 year old somali boy. i wonder if the other dead pirates were young as well.

my mother wanted to eat out last weekend but we ended up just eating at home. today she finally got her wish as we made our way to koreana for some korean barbecue. coincidentally, the last time we were here was almost a year ago today. we all agreed that koreana is far better than new jang su in burlington, the last korean place we went to; at least the waitress doesn't yell at you for cooking the meat wrong. koreana's meat portions are also much more generous. still, it'd be nice to see another korean barbecue restaurant in the area, just to have some more competition and variety, but koreana is definitely the standard to beat.

even though i was just a few minutes from my house, i still had to get a ride back to belmont to retrieve my motorcycle. the temperature today barely made it above 40's with a strong wind that pushed me hard enough on the bike to make me ride diagonally. the trip home was even colder at 34 degrees, but somehow it wasn't that bad, i've been in much worse. the sudden cold snap probably means i still won't be able to turn off my heat though.
