dreams of overflowing basement pipes made me suddenly snap awake early this morning to go use the bathroom. as if the day couldn't get any wetter, it was non-stop raining all day. the bad weather and end of the year travel plans seemed to have affected cafe business as well and there was hardly any customers, worse than last saturday right before christmas.
there was nothing to do but stay indoors today. i practiced my multi-tasking skills, alternating between doing retroactive blog work (updating photos), watching season 1 of fargo, and try to write a formula that can take comma delimited search criteria placed within a spreadsheet cell. it took most of the day but i finally got something that worked, even if it isn't very elegant, using a combination of query statements (with OR operator pipes), text conversion, case switching, and the split function. i'd pepper the day with lunch (scrambled eggs and kielbasa) and dinner (bolognese pasta), snacks (shin noodle cup) and bathroom breaks.
tonight was the pistons-celtics game. boston came out playing like total trash. the crowd was booing the home team at one point, they couldn't score at all. the pistons had a 21-point lead at one point, and led by 19 points going into halftime. celtics redeemed themselves in the 3rd quarter, erasing the deficit and tying the game going into the 4th quarter. it looked like the celtics just might win this one and avoid disaster up by 6 points with less than 2 minutes left in the game. but pistons came back to tie it and send it into overtime. boston managed to eke out just enough points to finally win against the worst team in the NBA, avoiding the generational slander had they lost. i'm happy for the victory but boston needs to take this near-loss as a wakeup call that they can't play like this ever again. this was a game the celtics was supposed to lose based on how bad they played in the first half.
