my mother surprised me with news that they found me a new roommate, starting next week, for 2 months. he's a chinese astrophysicist postdoc staying in town trying to find work. i was angry at first, that they made this decision without asking me. but we reached a compromise: the tenant would stay at the apartment above my sister's place for a month, and then move to my place for possibly 3 months. i say possibly because once he finds work, he'll move out. my mother said he told her he doesn't cook, is very quiet, and is rarely home because he'll be traveling visiting various places looking for a job. it all sounds too good to be true. this was a guy my parents just met yesterday, came to the cafe asking if they had any rooms available for rent. but the thing that finally sold me on his stay was when my mother told me he was from chongqing. that's like my second home, anyone from there is welcomed to stay at my place. later in the afternoon the guy return to the cafe and i was able to meet him.

so that was this morning's drama. otherwise it was a fairly routine work day at the cafe. for some reason nobody was buying bentos today, and it wasn't until the afternoon that we got our first bento order. beef noodle soup was the most popular item. random people - like little white old ladies - would come in and order the beef noodle soup. it was so popular we nearly ran out, but my parents had already started a fresh batch, and were already selling from the new stock before we had time to divide everything up.

i made a new batch of tea eggs after grinding 8 different asian spices to make a new batch of tea egg spice packets. my sister went out and bought some bread from iggy's, this potato pizza that i shared with my parents that wasn't that good more like a vegetarian pizza. i saw esmei a few times when my sister took her out and back. esmei was crying in the car when she saw me. i also got to use the ice paddle again to cool down the large pot of beef noodle broth. at one point we filled it up with fresh ice and lowered the temperature down to 90 degrees before dividing the broth into individual containers.

i returned home after 5pm. there was a very light drizzle, barely enough to wet the pavement. i took out the trash can before going inside.

for dinner i had another bowl of bolognese sauce with cavatappi pasta. i didn't have enough and added some rotini pasta as well.

that new right speaker i replaced on monday? that i thought was working well? turns out it too is malfunctioning. i noticed it last night, when i had the volume on my computer turned up, i could hear a muffled buzzing. tonight it got even worse. it only happens on the low frequency sounds (bass). buying another replacement speaker isn't a big deal ($3.99 on ebay), but i'm wondering if it's a different issue, like maybe obstruction in the speaker grill. i might have time tomorrow night to try taking apart the computer to see if i can fix the issue.

half a dozen NBA games tonight. basically all the teams that were supposed to win won, and won by large 20+ points margin: bucks, sixers, raptors, suns, mavericks, thunders. sixers victory over th magic was a surprise, the betting odds had magic in favor since philly was playing without an injured embiid, and the game was in orlando. 8 games tomorrow including a piston-celtics matchup, the winningest team versus the losingest team. i'm actually kind of nervous for that game. it'd a disaster if boston lost (laughingstock of the league), so there's some pressure.
