i was the first to arrive at the cafe. while preparing to start the day, i heard my sister talking with someone outside. the pet groomer across the street was gone for the week, but left instructions for someone to come pick up dog food from her store. however she never left us a set of keys, so we had no way of getting inside. later we found out she had the foods delivered to the cafe, and someone did eventually come and pick them up. however that someone ended up taking everything, which became a problem with a second person came in the afternoon to pick up their portion of dog food. which was basically a lot of unnecessary drama for an otherwise quiet veteran's day saturday.
business was slow but it wasn't too bad. we hardly at any customers for the first few hours but by the afternoon people started showing up. my parents showed up around 12:30pm, because my sister said she needed to leave at 2pm to drive up to new hampshire with esmei. my parents ended up coming needlessly, because my sister didn't end up leaving until almost 4:30pm.
i made some more air fryer fries today using 4 large russet potatoes. i soaked them in cold water before putting them in the large fry basket. i cooked them twice after the fries still tasted a little raw the first time. even after the second "fry" they still seemed soggy and undercooked. you can't get good air circulation using a fry basket. the only truly delicious fries are those that are actually deep fried, there's no way around it. i ended up cooking the fries a third and final time this time using the rotisserie cage. that made for more palatable fries, but because i'd already cooked them already, some fries were crispy and dried (almost like potato chips) while others were still slightly soggy. the next time my father uses the deep fryer i'll try making a batch of actual fried fries.
i left the cafe around 4pm while my parents gave my 2nd aunt a ride home first. my mother originally wanted to go to the waltham costco after work, but my father was feeling well, so a costco supply run will be postponed until monday. i was going to move all the houseplants in the sunroom to the basement as the temperature would reach freezing tonight (31 degrees) but i was surprised by how warm the sunroom was, and figured the plants could stay there for one more night. moving them tomorrow during the daytime is better anyway, gives me time treat them all with pesticide first.
when my parents came home we ordered food from what da chick. my mother had been thinking about the fried chicken bones all week and wanted to get two servings this time. my father and i went to go pick up our order around 5pm. my mother could see right away that the fried chicken bones were not fresh, not like last time. they were still good, just not as good.
i returned home soon afterwards as the temperatures were dropping. it was already 40 degrees by the time i left. i felt a little chilly, i might want to switch to my puffy winter jacket. i also dreamed about owning a heated vest.
i also wanted to get home to watch the raptors-celtics game. celtics won and judging by the score (117-94) you'd think it was an easy win, but toronto played tough, like many of the opponents boston has faced so far. regardless if you're a good team or a bad team, any NBA team is capable of beating any other NBA team on any given day. you can't sleep on any teams, it's going to a tough season, but that makes it way more entertaining too.
