i started cleaning up the house a little bit in preparation for li's arrival monday evening. i showed up at the cafe by 10:30am. my parents were already there. my mother came today on a saturday because later in the afternoon i was going to go with my father to return the two old dehumidifiers for rebates. my sister was at the cafe today as well, intermittently, along with her dog esmei.

my father and i left around 1:50pm. the dehumidifier return event was held at the mcglynn middle school next to the meadowglen mall. when we got there, we found nothing. confused, we kept driving until we saw a parking lot in the back where the event was happening (here was also the location of the wind turbine you see if you ever drive by the mystic river). i actually didn't need to come, because they hired a few young men to help haul the heavy dehumidifiers out of the car. each broken dehumidifier was worth $30. i'd already filled out the form, and got a receipt with a number i could use to track the rebate check, due to arrive in 6-8 weeks.

my father and i returned to the cafe an hour after we left. my sister was there temporarily to help, but my mother said they didn't have a single customer since we left.

we closed at 4pm, but had already started cleaning up beforehand, so was able to leave soon afterwards. we told my sister to come back later to put the new batch of beef noodle soup broth into the freezer and the tea eggs in the fridge.

with the weather turning chilly, i helped my father take down the window air conditioner in the master bedroom. the one in the living room we're saving until tomorrow. he also plugged in the portable space heater and left it running for a few hours in the living room.

for dinner we had some luosifen i bought in chinatown last weekend. i got enough so we each had a bowl, my father cooked everything in the kitchen, 4 burners running, 3 to boil the noodles, one to cook the broth per serving. the spicy and sour soup really hit the spot on a cold night. my mother said it was too spicy and warned my father not to add any of the chili oil. i was fine with the heat, i could've added a second packet, but decided i didn't want to overdue it.

riding back home, i regret not wearing a thicker jacket, as i felt a little chilly. this could be the first weekend in a long time where it hasn't rained, although i did hear there might be showers on monday.
