i woke up at 8am and left the house by 8:50am, heading into chinatown and haymarket. i was expecting cooler conditions but the weather was surprisingly warm (despite an overcast), temperature already at 65 degrees. i stopped by the beacon street walgreens briefly to use the TD bank ATM kiosk to withdraw $100 in cash (for haymarket use).

i made it to ming's market at 9:20am. my mother asked me to get her a head of taiwanese cabbage and a head of napa cabbage. i padded the rest of the purchase with luosifen noodles.

back outside, i found a rainbow unicorn sequin journal lying on the sidewalk. i read a few entries, seemed to belong to a drug user with entries about going into rehab. there was a list of phone numbers in the front and i was tempted to call someone to return the journal, but i didn't want to get involved. i put the journal on a parking meter stand, hopefully some other good samaritan will find it and return it.

it took me 10 minutes to ride to haymarket, arriving by 9:45am. some vendors hadn't even set up yet, though the fishmonger and the oyster shucker were already there. my haul: 10 navel oranges ($4), 2 lbs. of red long horn peppers ($4), 2 boxes of pineberries ($1), 8 clementines ($2), and a bunch of cilantro ($1).

i left haymarket a bit after 10am and got home by 10:30am. as it was still early, i had time to take a shower and relax for a bit before leaving for the cafe around 11:20am.

a slow day at the cafe, we only made half of what we made last friday. it was busy briefly around lunchtime (when my godmother was here) but slow after that. my parents made some scallion bread, one for themselves, one to give to casey's husband. my aunt showed up around 2pm, followed by casey and her grandson at 3pm. she gifted us a box of sous vide short ribs and some baby bokchoi a friend of hers had grown (apparently in sand). i made a new batch of tea eggs for next week, let them soak over the weekend for maximum flavor.

i returned home by 5:30pm, after it looked like it wasn't going to be busy anymore. i checked on my aquarium and noticed the new CO2 checker had turned yellow, while the old checker was a pale green. i looked at my bubble counter and saw that it was going at 2 bubbles per second, so i tweaked the needle valve back down to a bubble every 2 seconds.

i had two leftover pieces of scallion bread. i fell asleep on the couch around 6:30pm while watching the news, didn't wake up until 2 hours later, my body full of aches. i was planning on making some hot sauce with the red long horned peppers i bought, but wanted to make sure i had a decent working recipe, so i decided to do some more research first. instead i made two more peppered ham sandwiches for dinner.
