i was up until almost 3am last night rereading between two fires by christopher buehlman. so it wasn't surprising that i was reluctant to get out of bed, and didn't wake up until 9:30am. i left for the cafe around 10:45am. i wore one of my new cool fabric polo shirts that arrived monday.

i bought an old 11" microwave dish that i kept after throwing out my broken microwave. after i arrived at the cafe, i took that dish and another two (one smaller, one larger 13") and went to the upstairs apartment to replace their broken one. looked like my sister already swapped it out with a 9" dish. the 13" was too large, but the 11" was just right. i also left my blowdryer for lauryn.

since my mother started using the tea eggs i made on saturday, i made another batch today. it got busy close to lunchtime, and there was a steady stream of customers until 1:30pm. even though we had a lot of customers, the orders were small for the most part, so we didn't make as much as we did last wednesday.

my mother made some ground beef stirfry with the home grown screw peppers. when i bought those seeds, they were advertised as mildly hot, which left me a little disappointed, because i was hoping for something hotter. but they looked like the green long horn peppers i usually get from chinatown for my mother. my father used some this past weekend and he said they were hot even though neither my mother and i could taste the hotness. but while my mother was chopping up the peppers today, i tried a piece and it was definitely hot, stronger than a jalapeno but not as hot as a habanero. i had some ground beef stirfry with rice.

there was no business after 3pm so my parents said i could leave. i didn't leave until 3:45pm. i brought home an empty cardboard box to used as my recycle bin. the current box i have has basically fallen apart. since i didn't have any bungie straps, i had to ride with one hand and hold the box with the other. thankfully there wasn't too much traffic and i got home in one piece.

i was still really hungry for some reason and kept searching for things to eat in the house. i finished my carrots and humus. then found some old norwegian fiber crackers with either expired cheese or some kind of fruit butter. i even had a white peach, but nothing was hitting the spot. i ended up opening a box of boursin garlic and fine herbs cheese spread along with some crackers. i was surprised the cheese had already expired (february) but when i opened the package they looked okay so i ended up eating about half. that did the trick and i wasn't hungry afterwards.

i downloaded spider-man: across the spider-verse. it's pretty good, so much details, i'd need to watch it a few more times to catch all the little easter eggs. i reheated bruce's turkey chili and ate it while watching the second half of the movie. i was disappointed that it ended on a cliffhanger, felt like the whole movie was setting up for the third film. as for the chili, if you didn't tell me it was turkey, i would've thought it was beef. very hearty and filling.

i finally tried my octo softbox lighting kit. i'd examined it briefly when it first arrived a few weeks ago, i remember thinking the quality was a bit cheap, and might end up returning it. i only set up one light just to try it out. yes, quality-wise it's a bit cheap (vinyl instead of cloth, and a plasticky smell), but not bad for $77 (amazon prime special). the light is super bright (135W LED) and can be controlled by a remote, adjusting the brightness and color (2700-6400K). it'll set up the other light tomorrow and do some test photos. just with one softbox, i did some quick self-portait with the phone and the lighting made it look like it was taken during daylight. i think it'll keep it after all.
