i returned to the house by 9:10am, waiting for my roommate to get up. she didn't stir until 9:30am, and then finally by 10:10am she left the house. i used the bathoom again, took a shower, and got ready to leave for the cafe. both frances and alex were texting me: frances via whatsapp, sending me taiwanese street food photos and videos, alex from japan with reports of his trip. i didn't leave until 10:50am, getting to the cafe around 11am.
with my sister not doing her catered meal today because of the shortened week due to the 4th of july holiday, this was the most blissful wednesday we've experienced in quite a long time. sure, we don't make as much, but not having the stress of my sister cooking concurrently while we're trying to run a business is so much better. it ended up being a slow day. first thing i did was make a fresh batch of tea eggs. both my mother and i were chugging down icy plum drinks. later i made some bean sprout banchan. i finally left around 4pm when it looked like it wasn't going to be busy the rest of the day.
it was a hot day, with temperature in boston reaching 90 degrees (though my cambridge weather station said 81° maximum). i couldn't air house the house as it was cooler indoors. it felt even hotter because of the humidity, and i briefly thought about installing the AC. but i have a strict AC policy: no air conditioning until we get an official heatwave, and we haven't gotten one yet. because of all the rain, the weather has been surprisingly cool for the past few weeks.
because it wasn't busy at the cafe, i thought i could go to belmont in the afternoon and do some mowing (also: pick up a case of thermal paper rolls that'd arrived that can't be left out in the heat). but it was too hot, and the cafe got a little busy, so i never got the chance (my father did drive back to belmont to pick up the paper though). anyway, my mother called me in the evening, around 8:30pm, said my father already mowed the lawn after getting back from the cafe (after seeing another neighbor doing in the same in the early evening). that saves me a trip tomorrow afternoon.
my roommate didn't get back home until 6:20pm, rather late for her. she spent a long time making dinner, scraping the bottom of my pot with a wooden spoon. because there wasn't any oily smell, i wasn't too stressed. from the smell afterwards, it might've been some sort of pasta. speaking of which, i made dinner myself, but not until 9pm: frozen tortellini in jarred pasta sauce. i had some cherries afterwards, before taking out the trash.
i started watching apple+'s hijack with idris elba. you know if it has idris in it, it's going to be good. the series is currently air, and so far only 3 episodes have been released. it's pretty good, reminds me of the series 24, a sprawling international story, many characters, terrorists, and somehow everything interconnects.
