i woke up at 9am to get ready for work. i left by 10am, walking down to the cafe since it'd be raining in a few hours. i admired some spring flowers along the way, getting there a bit before 10:30am.
i cooked 6 cups of rice because we used up nearly all of it yesterday and didn't have any frozen rice in the freezer. what i didn't take into consideration was how rainy it was going to be, and business is typically slow on rainy days.
before we even opened we got a large online order for a 11:30am pickup. my sister and i started to get ready, prepping the ingredients, gathering the containers. we then got a phone call at 10:45am, a man saying he'd just made the online order, and if he could add a chicken bento. he made it a point that it had to be non-spicy: the chicken bento has always been non-spicy. what annoyed me was the man called and immediately spoke to me in chinese, like he just assumed everyone spoke his language. i was tempted to say i didn't understand what he was saying. a few minutes later another man called. he said he put in the online order. "somebody else just called to add a chicken bento," i told him, but he said it wasn't him. i was confused, but didn't pursue it. he called to ask if he come pick up his order early, 11:20am. i said sure, but that meant my sister and i had to start preparing the food right away. a few minutes later another phone call. the same man, said his father had called to order the chicken bento. i hung up to make the food. i kept looking at the clock, wondering when my 2nd aunt was going to come to work. instead, my father made a surprise cameo appearance. earlier he and my mother went to the waltham OSJL so she could get some cosmetics for my big aunt in new york, whom my 2nd aunt would be visiting on monday. so even though we put in a rush to get the big order ready early, the customer didn't come to pick up the order until 11:50am.
it was a slow work day. thank god for that big online order this morning, which was a third of today's profit. nevertheless, we still made a decent amount, which was surprising, because i thought we wouldn't get any customers today, given how rainy it was. but customers came despite the bad weather. my father returned home, only to come back after work to give my 2nd aunt and me rides. i made some indomie mi goreng for lunch, followed by some matcha ice cream my 2nd aunt bought for me from porter exchange. she sprinkled various bursting boba and some mochi. during another lull, i vacuumed with the newly filter-cleaned cordless vacuum, including cleaning the dusty prefilter on the air purifier.
i left around 4:20pm. arriving in belmont, went into the backyard to check on the plants and rain barrels. the plants were very happy because of the rain. i thought it'd be cold and clammy but it was an unusually warm and humid rain. the barrels were all filled to capacity.
i snacked until dinner: meigan cai, grilled salmon, and beef & hot pepper stirfry. it was the long horn peppers from haymarket and this batch was particularly spicy, to the point where we couldn't eat the peppers. my father gave me a ride back to cambridge around 7pm.
my replacement kohler toilet seat cover had arrived and i installed it. it was nearly identical to my old toilet seat, which is what i wanted, since i've grown used to the old one. i also swapped out the other lightweight shower curtain with the more heavy duty one. i played around with the shower curtain hooks so the two curtains wouldn't overlap too much. i then took a shower. no complaints, curtains did what it was supposed to. maybe wished it was slightly more translucent, but frosted provides a bit of privacy.
i watched game 3 between the nuggets and lakers. denver seems legit, as they won game 3 decisively. lakers played well, but they were no match for the nuggets. game 3 of the eastern conference is tomorrow, between the celtics and heat. will boston go down like LA, in a 0-3 hole?
it was rainy for much of the day, but nothing like later in the evening, when it was pouring. the rest of the night was drowned out by the sound of torrential rain beating against the side of the house and windows. if only all this rain could've been spread out some more instead of all happening in a 24 hour period!
