my sister made hainan chicken today, but she put frozen chicken leg quarters into the broth and they didn't cook completely. with time running out, she thought maybe she could cook them in the microwave, but we ended up steaming the chickens, which cooked them after a few minutes. not that it matters, since like most of the things my sister makes, they run on the bland side. not that ingredients were lacking, but if only she added some more salt to her dishes, her customers might actually be able to taste them.

after my sister finished with her dishes, i spent the next hour cleaning up after her mess. only then was i able to finally bake some spanakopita in the oven.

the rest of the day was a blur. i sorted a box of chinese dried noodles. i put new tea eggs into the slow cooker. these costco eggs are larger but they have thin shells that come off easily, turning the tea eggs with traditional spiderweb patterns into entirely black eggs. after my sister spilled a container of black noodles onto the floor, i made a new batch. we made a container of ice today - not for drinks - but instead to cool off the hainan chicken. i ordered another magnetic knife holder for the cafe.

i finally left by around 6pm. i took home some rice noodle stirfry my mother made before i left, plus a container of leftover chicken with a special salty scallion & ginger dipping sauce my father made by pouring hot oil onto the ingredients.

after a shower, i ate dinner while watching the trailblazers-celtics game. having lost 3 consecutive games (including much overtime play), boston finally won one tonight. afterwards i had a white nectarine.

today would've been a rather routine day except this happened: i was eating a hard gummy penguin licorice drop, and felt something hard in my mouth, like finding a corn kernel. i fished the foreign object out of my mouth, what looked to be a hard white ball. i promptly threw it into the trash, not thinking much of it. but then i went to lick my upper right molar, and realized there was now a hole in my tooth. the "plug" on the enamel crown for my dental implant had fallen out! it's basically like a filling, except i don't feel any pain in that tooth because it's actually an artificial tooth. i quickly went back to the trash and found the missing bit.

so tomorrow i'm going to try and contact my old dentist, doctor huang. i haven't seen him for almost a decade, i'm not even sure if he's still working. if i can contact him i know he'll be able to fix this problem. if not, i'm not sure who i can find to patch up a dental implant.
