i have a birthday tradition of eating fried chicken. and in recent years, bonchon fried chicken to be exact. but since my birthday falls on a sunday this year, i wouldn't be able to score their weekday lunch special prices, so i decided to get some today (friday). normally i'd just run to the one in harvard square, but apparently that closed a few months ago, which was both shocking and sad. now the nearest bonchon is the one in allston, a bit farther, bit still reachable via bicycle.

i ordered online around 12:25pm, with the earliest pickup time of 12:55pm. by the time i was outside ready to leave at 12:30pm, they sent me a text saying my order was already ready for pickup. so turns out i didn't have to wait. in hindsight, it would've been easier just to go there and order in person. so i ended up riding about 20 minutes to get there, and then another 20 minutes to bring it back. by then the wings would already cold.

the weather today was unusually warm again. the temperature was already 60°F by the afternoon. the only thing from keeping it getting even warmer was the strong winds. i was glad i wore my adidas jacket, but by time i got there i was so warm i wanted to through the jacket in my bag.

i order 2x 8-piece spicy wings and 2x 8-piece soy garlic wings. each was $12 (it used to be $10), for a total after taxes of about $50. for the side i picked pickled daikon radishes for all. i also noticed they had a special deal this weekend of 50 wings for $65. i'm tempted to order wings again on sunday.

i had an insulated grocery bag but the wings wouldn't all fit inside, so i ended up just strapping the takeout bag with bungie netting to the back of my bicycle. biking back, i kept on hearing an annoying clicking sound, like something was loose and rubbing up against the spokes of the wheel. i stopped a few times, trying to figure out what it was. finally i discovered it was the buckle of my messenger bag, poking them the basket, hitting the spokes.

i made it to the cafe by 1:15pm. my aunt was there. she'd never tried bonchon chicken before so we let her sample a soy garlic and a spicy wing. she liked the crispiness, didn't think the spicy version was that hot. she said it wouldn't be too difficult to double fry you own wings at home (there's actually a bunch of DIY recipes on youtube, some of which i've seen). she tried the pickled daikon, said it wasn't that good, and when i tried it, the flavor was a little diluted. after my aunt left, my 2nd aunt made a surprise visit. my poor mother, who wanted the bonchon wings all to herself, ended up having to share with everyone else at the cafe including my father and sister. i left soon afterwards with my own two boxes of bonchon.

i wasn't able to eat right away. i figured by that point the wings were already cold, so it wouldn't make a difference if i ate them a bit later. instead i called up square customer service and tried to troubleshoot a weird issue. starting on wednesday, we weren't receiving e-mail notifications whenever a new online order came in. the orders would still show up on the tablets, i just wasn't getting the e-mails. that's only an issue when i'm home, because i can then easily check the e-mails and see when orders come in, and to notify my parents if the orders have unusual substitutions or additions. anyway, called up customer service, they weren't much help. the woman put me on hold a bunch of times to try out some stuff on her end. i could hear she was working from home, because i heard a child crying in the background. nothing was fixed, but i discovered yesterday that when i add a secondary gmail account, i can then receive the e-mail notifications just fine. so that's what i'm probably going to do.

i ended up not eating my wings until almost 3pm. i ate half - 4 spicy, 4 soy garlic - and saved the rest for dinner. the daikon that i had wasn't bad, i think the one that i had earlier was from a bad diluted batch.

i returned a few more items on temu. they were such low cost that it was more economical for me to keep them instead of temu paying for me to ship it back to them. when i tried earlier this week, the only option was refund back to the original credit card. unfortunately that card had expired, so that wasn't an option. however today they gave me the second option of refunding as credit, to be used in the future. i think maybe they didn't allow me to refund as credit because i already had a big chunk of credit. after my mother made another temu purchase on wednesday, she used up all that stored credit.

my eufycams have been having issues for the past few weeks. this all started to happen when online investigators discovered eufy wasn't encrypting all their videos. it took them a while to respond, and when they did, they made updates to the app and how the videos are stored, which broke a bunch of stuff. like sometimes events wouldn't show up. or i couldn't playback past videos. and the most annoying thing was when i tried to download and save a video, sometimes it'd crash the app. i had a basic wait and see attitude, hoping eufy would eventually fix all these bugs. in the meantime, i reformatted all the memory cards on all the eufycams. when i checked again today, most of the problems seemed to be fixed. not sure if it was something eufy did or something i did. i was able to see the event videos and download them without problems. playback also worked fine. the only remaining issue is when i try to save a segment of playback video, it will only record for 30 seconds before "resetting" and stop recording. after that i can record however long i want again.

i finally got around to vacuuming the house, collected a whole canister of dust. it's probably been more a few months since i last vacuumed. no excuse really, just lazy. my mother informed me this morning that some of the tenants from my sister's upstairs apartments will need to be relocated for a few days in late march while the house gets insulated pumped into the walls. they'll provide a hotel room for the couple and the single guy who get to stay in my guest bedroom for a few days. i'll need to slowly start cleaning my house again.

i finished the rest of my bonchon wings in the evening while watching the hornets-celtics game. it was a great game, celtics were still missing a bunch of key players (smart, brown, horford), but tatum and white were the offensive engine for boston. tatum scored 41 points, but white was the star for the celtics, scoring 33 points, 10 assists, and 3 rebounds (i also learned what a "heat check" is). the game seemed like it was a done deal, but charlotte's a scrappy team with no quit, and they got the game to within 10 points in the final minutes to make it interesting. but boston still won in the end, 127-116. tonight was also the first night for new trade player mike muscala. he added 12 points, all 3-pointers. he looks to be a good addition to the team.
