went down to the community garden this morning to plant the two pepper plants i got from home depot yesterday. i dug out a good spot in the southwestern corner of my plot, using a shovel to clear the underground lemon balm roots. i also dug out a few perimeter garlic chives and replanted them once i cleared the area of unwanted grass rhizomes. in this spot i planted the shishito pepper. in the middle of a bunch of striped mallow i planted my second pepper, the dragon cayenne. i gave my garden a deep soaking watering, despite the fact that it might rain later today. before i left i chatted with lynn, who gave me a tour of all the things she planted in her new plot. she gave me a bouquet of yarrow flowers before i left. "they don't smell very good," she told me, even though they didn't smell bad when i took a whiff.

i stayed home for the rest of the day, waiting for the rain to arrive in the mid-afternoon. there were a few times when the sky got dark but no rain fell. only when i lost hope, close to 7pm, did it rain for like 10-15 minutes. it was the strangest rain too, seemed like a downpour, even though it was sunny. when i called my parents to see how much rain water we managed to collect in the barrels, my mother said belmont had been dry all day. had i known it wouldn't be raining today, i would've gone out to run some errands. i'll do them tomorrow, when supposedly it's going to be just as hot but much less humid.

i went out around 8pm when it looked like there might be a colorful sunset. there were some colors but they were far on the horizon and i only had my wide angle lens. by the time i went back home to switch to my telephoto, most of the colors had lost their colors.

i had leftover barbecue for lunch then a pair of stovetop steamed zongzi for dinner nearly 10pm. i watched another episode of HBO's watchmen, i think there's just a few more days before these episodes stop being free.
