got some bad news tonight: ac moore is going out of business and will be closing all 145 stores. about 40 stores will reopen as michaels. this is sad news for my mother who goes to the fresh pond ac moore all the time, after they opened up this year. there's also a store that recently opened up at the fellsway plaza in medford, after the assembly square somerville store closed to make room for a trader joe. there's still a michaels in porter square, but without ac moore as a competitor, michaels will be the only game in town for crafts supplies. ac moore also had the better coupons (50% off versus michael's 40%) so days of half off discounts will be fewer.
