my sister (and her dog) came to pick me up around 11am to go get the birthday cake in chinatown. having two people meant she could double park while i went into the store to grab the cake. she also said my mother gave us money to get some honey pineapple cakes, an eldo cake house specialty. the weather this morning was rainy, but supposed to stop by the afternoon, so i could ride to belmont and wait for my parents to return before going to my aunt and uncle's place in arlington for dinner. the occasion was to celebrate my aunt's and father's birthdays as well as my own. i heard there would be blue ribbon barbecue.
my sister also asked me to get some thousand year old egg rice porridge at eldo cake house. they didn't seem to have the honey pineapple cakes, and when i asked, the closest thing was a pineapple spiral cake, not the same. after bringing the cake to the car, i went to 3 other bakeries (corner cafe bakery, top bread, and bao bao bakery & cafe) looking for pineapple cakes, but none of them had it. i did get 8 portuguese custard tarts from the corner bakery ($1.20/each). by then my sister had relocated and actually found a parking spot. while i waited in the car with hailey, my sister went in search of pineapple cakes herself, but came back with some alternative pastries. returning home, i took two tarts for myself and gave the rest to my parents before getting dropped off.
