i always wake up early during the summer months, but forced myself to sleep some more before finally getting up at 9am. this was my last day without my roommate, who was due back in town around 5pm. i was in no hurry to get where i was going, and after i shower i finally dressed and left for harvard square to take the bus to belmont. i meant to leave early but still find myself pressed for time, an umbrella to shield myself from the light drizzle. despite the rain, it was also an uncomfortably humid day. after i put some money on my charlie card, i ran up to the bus station, and got there just in time before the 73 left the station.

my parents already had rice porridge for breakfast, i settled for a piece of toast with some jam and a glass of instant hot soy milk. my mother was searching netflix for something to new to watch, i found GLOW which she seemed to like and spent the rest of the day watching. while my father went to take a nap, i spent the rest of the day either surfing the web on my old MBP or playing with my phone. i too fell asleep briefly on the couch. during a lull in the rain (it had mostly stopped by late afternoon, though the sky was still overcast), i went outside to inspect the squash plants for vine borer eggs (a few) and to take some photos.

my mother made a beef curry for dinner, including some cilantro she picked from the garden. afterwards i got a ride back home to cambridge.

i found my roommate already home, eating dinner in the kitchen, a pot of beef boiling on the stove. i immediately saw the fancy MBP on the couch, which he told me was a laptop he actually ordered from china and had one of his friends bring to him while he was at amherst these past 2 weeks. macbook pros are of course cheaper here in the US, but he had to buy it in china because he could use grant money to purchase it. after he finished eating he let me play with the new MBP. i'd seen them in apple stores but always had a prejudice against these new machines so never bothered to really look. the touchbar didn't seem all that bad, though given a choice, my preferred MBP is still a circa 2015 model with a 1TB hard drive and actual ports (USB 3, SD card slot, etc.) instead of just USB-C.
