2016

once more there was no belgian waffles waiting for me in belmont. my godmother had stopped by, and by the time she left, i just had some leftover chestnut cake instead. my mother was watching her shows all day (some chinese soap opera about communists and nationalists working together against the japanese occupation) while i banged away on my macbook pro, occasionally letting hailey outside. it was another warm day, but temperature only around the mid-50's. birds visited the feeders (chickadees, cardinal, juncos, downies) but nothing particularly noteworthy.

spring signs are already upon us, with a few backyard crocuses and the maple tree in front of the house dripping sticky sap onto the walk. i'd planned on tapping the other large maple (norwegian) in the backyard to make some homemade syrup but i never bought the equipment, so i just have to wait until next year. rabbits have been visiting the backyard (from their droppings); they chewed up some down maple branches, but they seemed to have stayed away from the quince bush this year.
