my father removed the front porch light so i could better sand the area and later prime and paint it. while he edged the western side of the house, i painted the alcove area by the rear entrance, around the door, along the railing, and some shingles. i then sanded the area around the front porch light and applied a coat of old primer. it went on a little thin, but later when i touched it middry, i could feel it was a little grippy, which is what you want with a primer coat. in the second half, my father and i both edged the front of the house, with me working the detail areas around the windows and below the fascia, while he edged below the shingles.
by the end of the work day, we'd had edges pretty much the entire house; all that's left is to use the roller and paint the shingles, which will take another day, and after that we're finally finished. no paint work tomorrow because my father has other obligations (supply run, making some meat buns), but wednesday looks like it might be the day where we finally finish overall painting. after that the next big project is installing the awning and put back the porch light, which both require painting (light needs to be sprayed painted and the awning require some wooden braces that need to be painted).
