the big event this evening was the manny pacquiao vs. floyd mayweather jr. fight. the only problem was: how to watch it? i wasn't planning on paying the $100 to see it on pay-per-view, so i kept pinging the boxing subreddit, looking for last minute links of foreign sites that were streaming the match. in lot of those countries (china for example), the fight was broadcasted for free; only in places like the US did it cost so much. finally i found a russian website that was streaming the match. there was russian commentary and the occasional russian commercials, but it was still watchable, and more importantly, free.

i was rooting for manny pacquiao. i can't stand mayweather, his smugness, and was hoping he'd lose. even mayweather's entourage - justin bieber, the burger king (no!) - surrounded by douchebags. it was weird to see jimmy kimmel in pacquiao's entourage. there were also numerous celebrity sightings in the audience, including tom brady. during the fight, pacquiao seemed to be the aggressor, while mayweather did all he could to avoid fighting, backing away or locking up. when the final decision was made and mayweather was the unanimous winner, i was shocked but not surprised. las vegas is mayweather's town, and the powers that be have a vested interest in keeping mayweather on top. business as usual, vegas being vegas. but i don't feel too bad for manny: i heard his purse was $80 million (mayweather took home $120 at least). you win even when you lose!
