everyday i notice a steady improvement in my broken collarbone. it hurts a little less, or maybe i can articulate my arm a little more. today, i managed to sleep a little later, all the way to 10. understanding that the pain doesn't mean my healing bones are cracking and grinding against each other makes my condition a little more bearable. i also have to bear in mind that it's only been a week since my accident. bone takes time to heal, it's already pretty amazing that i can move around a lot easier having so recently broken my clavicle.

for lunch i heated up a mantou sandwich my mother gave me yesterday before i left belmont. i didn't have a lot of things to do today and it was cold outside anyway, so better to stay indoors. i did plant an additional 24 pots, plus 4 more i put in separate containers since they couldn't all fit on the tray. i planted 2 more of each tomatoes (cherry, roma, regular), 6 mixed hot peppers, 6 sweet basil, and 6 thai basil. i want to plant even more basil, but i'm almost out of potting mix. i'm out of new containers as well but i have a whole bunch of old ones in the basement i can dig up. thai basil is one of those herbs that i can always use more of. they grow better than sweet basil in that they form compact bushes, while sweet basil tend to grow kind of thin and tall and don't regrow very well. i also planted 6 butterfly weed, but on the label it says it takes 365 days to flower, which i think is burpee's way of saying it doesn't flower until the next season (biennial). finally, with 2 remaining pots i planted some delphiniums, which can take as long as a month to germinate. if i get the chance i'd like to grow more of these as well since they're difficult to get started.

i bought a few things online: an iview 3500STB media player/digital converter box ($43.35) and a sanoxy apple-knockoff bluetooth keyboard ($14.94). the iview is so i can watch some broadcast television in my room using my old analog television (thereby commuting its destruction in a landfill). it's one of the few converter boxes that can receive QAM channels through the cable wire (this is good because i won't need an antenna to get channels). it's an ugly looking thing, but it's pretty much the only one of its kind currently on the market so there aren't any other choices. as for the keyboard, not sure how i heard of it, but despite being a knockoff, it scores pretty high reviews. apple's own bluetooth wireless keyboard costs $69, and the cheapest i can find through craig's list is $40. i plan on using the keyboard for those times when i want to connect my macbook pro to the HDTV, but the keyboard also works for ipads.

i had some miso soup in the late afternoon. for dinner i heated up some canned maple beans. the first few spoonfuls were good, but canned beans get real old real quick, and when i finally finished, i can't imagine myself ever eating beans again.
