i was alone in belmont1 with the dog in the early afternoon, after my mother and sister left for the woburn ac moore to look for starbella yarn. i moved all the rosemary plants into the sun room then took hailey out to the backyard to play fetch with a stripped baseball before coming back in to watch the patriots-redskins game. what was supposed to be a fairly routine new england victory turned out to be a closely fought match due to poor patriots' defense. new england still won but it was too close for comfort.

when my sister and mother finally came back home in the early evening, they returned without yarn (they were all out of stock, wednesday is when their new shipment comes in) but my sister did buy a new raised dog bed for hailey.

it was cold enough (31°F) that by the time i made it back to cambridge, i had a hard time taking off my motorcycle helmet because i couldn't feel my fingers. marco had made a chocolate cake for the people in his lab group tomorrow. he told me that he's actually leaving friday afternoon (arriving in europe sometime saturday). looks like i'll be roommate free a day earlier than expected.

1 i passed a fox network news van parked off of grove street, like a vulture circling a sensational news story. i don't expect to hear much more about the pizzuto family tragedy, it's pretty much a private matter at this point.
