with those words, blue cross continues to nickel and dime me for the coverage on my broken foot motorcycle accident more than 2 years ago. this is the 3rd time they've retroactively rescinded a past insurance claim, and then i get a big surprise in the mail when the hospital says i now owe them this much money (in this case $1300 for 3 x-ray appointments). i had to call my motorcycle insurance agent to ask for more money to pay the hospital bill. he said the limit on my personal injury protection would run out; i said that was okay, as long as i get a letter from them which i'd then send to blue cross so they can retroactively pay the rest of my hospital bill.

with that bit of unpleasant business out of the way (i sent my moto insurance some documents via snail mail), the rest of my day was free. today's weather was wet and cold, the sort of nastiness that seeps into the house and permeates the bones. i felt bad for my roommate, who doesn't yet know that i am a polar bear and won't turn on the heat until i can almost see my breath indoors. i saw him before he left for work, taking the bike for the very first time (not counting this past weekend).

the sky was cloudy, and it must've rained overnight because there were puddles, but it was relatively dry. i took advantage of the lull and left for belmont via bicycle.

my mother has been searching the extensive catalog of online streaming english programs (via ppstream) looking for good shows to watch. she found a lot of stuff i've never even heard of before, some british imports and some american series that were cancelled early due to poor ratings. i introduced her to hustle, that british import about con men that used to be on AMC. she managed to watch 4 episodes before she had to make dinner.

i returned to cambridge soon after dinner because i didn't want to miss the start of the new england vs. miami monday night football game. it was raining and i was worried about getting soaked but it never got any worse than a light misting. by the time i finished taking a quick shower, my roommate was home. his 35mm f/1.8 nikon lens finally arrived today and he was excited to try it out on his camera.

as for the football game, the patriots completely dominated the dolphins in the second half, which you wouldn't have predicted judging from their poor performance in the first half. up to that point, new england only managed to score on 2 field goals, while miami was ahead by one point from a complete touchdown. even though the pats made two interceptions, they couldn't capitalize on them. then the second half happened. the momentum quickly shifted, and by game's end the patriots were up 41-14.
