so that's it? i waited all day and we (cambridge) didn't even get horizontal rain, nor a single broken tree limb? while i'm glad there wasn't widespread property damage in the neighborhood, it's also a bit of a downer. maybe something dramatic will happen overnight, but i doubt it. earl's not even a hurricane at this point, now officially downgraded as a tropical storm. maybe it's a different story on the cape and the islands, but it's annoyingly quiet here in cambridge.

just when i was about to give up on trying to get rid of the fish oil smell on my clothes, i think i finally found a working formula. i soaked a pair of boxers in 3/4 cup of vinegar and enough water to cover everything. when i rinsed this morning though, i could still smell the fish oil. but then i remembered something i read online (and now couldn't find anymore), about somebody trying a combination of both vinegar and bac-out. so i squirted bac-out over the smelly parts and waited for a few hours. i even scrubbed it with a brush, just to work it into the fabric. i then added a few drops of detergent and hand-washed the boxers in the sink. after hang drying it indoors, something remarkable happened: it doesn't smell fishy anymore! i've been smell testing it every hour as it dries, and there are many different smells (detergent, faint trace of bac-out), but fish is not one of them. i tried washing my jeans again with bac-out (left in place for a few hours) followed by detergent, but that didn't get rid of the smell. it has to be a combination of a vinegar pre-soak followed by a bac-out treatment. i'll try my new found technique tomorrow with my other stinky clothes.
