i almost lost it last night, narrowly avoided staying up until the morning watching the wire. i got through 2 more episodes before forcing myself to go to bed (this was around 4:00). i continued the marathon when i woke up, plowing through episodes as if my life depended on it. as of tonight i'm already on episode 6 season 3. season 2 dealt with unions. my favorite scene is when jimmy mcnulty impersonated a british john in order to go undercover to bust a prostitution ring. funny thing is actor dominic west is english. the gist of season 3 so far still seems nebulous - something about corruption in governemnt apparently. i do like the creation of "hamsterdam" though.

the rain mercifully stopped today, although the sky was still overcast throughout the day. on television, the news had round-the-clock flood damage coverage, footage of flooded basements, streets turned to river, and people going about their business paddling canoes and driving duck boats. the one good to come out of all this rain surplus is they extended the tax due date until mid-may so eastern massachusetts, due to the natural disaster emergency.

in my backyard, what looks to be celery stalks are the reemergence of some bleeding hearts. there are also wood poppies, and some unknown flowers. what i thought were hosta sprouts were actually just wild ginger buds.
