i woke up early this morning to see my roommate off. we were cordial with our good byes but i was glad to finally see him go. turns out a friend of his was coming to drive him to the airport. i watched him walk away, in his big purple puffy winter jacket, his white sneakers, and his wheeled carry-on suitcase. as soon as he was gone, i went through the house to check if he left anything behind. the only thing remaining was a half empty gallon of low-fat milk in the fridge. he even took his unopened box of frozen bacon strips from the freezer (i was sure he'd leave that behind) and a bag of bagels. he also took all his empty tubes of toothpaste (maybe he collects those things).

i began to clean. since my next roommate wouldn't arrive until the middle of next week, there wasn't a rush to get everything ready. i vacuumed a bit but mainly washed all the bed sheets and pillow cases.

spike tv was running a star wars marathon all day long and i got sucked into watching the empire strikes back then later return of the jedi. later in the evening i soaked in the warm bathtub while reading the latest issue of popular science. i had some chinese dumplings for dinner.

i find it unsettling living without a roommate now. i've gotten used to always being on guard because there might be somebody else in the house. it shouldn't be hard getting back to my usual habits though: leaving clothes everywhere, not doing the dishes, making a mess of the living room. it's almost like having a roommate prevents me from regressing.
