the calabash gourd growing in the roof gutter at my parents' place needed to be removed because it was blocking the drainage. when my father came home he climbed a step ladder with a bread knife and sliced the gourd into two pieces. earlier i was watching state of play with my mother. for dinner we sampled one of the many sweet corns growing in the garden. it wasn't very sweet, at least not compared to the bicolored sweet corn we get from the supermarkets. in fact, it was kind of bland, with a sour aftertaste. the kernels were juicy though. my father thinks the corns need more seasoning in the stalk while i think they might be overripe and starchy.

it was cold riding home, a sensation i haven't felt on the motorcycle in a while. the riding season continues, but the days of biking in a t-shirt might be over. autumn has arrived. i even saw a sugar maple already halfway through its foliage color change. my roommate wasn't home but the light in his room was on. he ended up going to the science museum, catching a movie at the imax, and then doing some shopping at the galleria mall.

draper smashed the ant farm! my guess as to tonight's mad men's central theme: parent-child relationships.
