the most exciting thing that happened today actually happened last night, and in the subconscious world:

i was at muir woods with an unidentified girl. while waiting to go inside, we were walking outside, exploring some of the undergrowth. on a log we saw a fat garter snake slithering away. peering closer into the shadow, we were shocked to see a bed of coiled snakes sleeping. while my friend left to go inside, i was still outside, mesmerized by what i was seeing. i could even make out a particular large snake, possibly an anaconda. i did think it was weird that all these snakes would be sleeping in the shadows because normally snakes like to be out in the sun. while i was walking away, i noticed something stirring. a serpentine head rises from the group and i can see and hear a tail rattling. slowly...backing...away... during that time a smaller snake slithers between my leg.

then from the darkness a lumbering form slowly comes my way. it's a 5 feet long alligator! i try to get out of the way but it's obviously following me. i pick up my pace and it does the same thing. there's a rock cliff i scramble up a little bit, thinking the alligator can't follow, but it can actually climb up the side without any problems, and even tries to take a bite at my heel. i keep on climbing until i reach the top, with the alligator still behind me. at the summit i spin around quickly, eluding the alligator, which drops down below, possibly to its death. i enter the park looking for my friend to tell her i just escaped being eaten by an alligator. she's actually inside a large auditorium, co-hosting a cooking show. there's one of those large swinging mirror above the counter so people can see what's happening. a score of bored senior citizens sitting in plastic folded seats edge the perimeter of the space.

when my roommate finally left for work today around noontime, i had the house all to myself. i went to the bank and visited the dollar store to pick up some household supplies. although the forecast called for a calm day, the sky was mostly overcast, so i didn't even consider trying to go anywhere. with not too much to do, i napped in the early evening, waking up an hour later to make some ramen for dinner. when sophia came back home, we got a chance to compare a small sampling of our 80's music collection.
