in the early afternoon i went over to my parents' place to help my father clean up all the loose branches we cut down from 2 weeks ago still covering up the backyard lawn. by the time i got there he was mostly finished, so instead i spent my time digging out the dandelions. there's a much easier chemical solution but because of the dog and because of the garden, spraying herbicide is not a good option.

later i gave my father a ride on the motorcycle down to the cafe. i went with my parents to chinatown to pick up some weekly supplies. while at ming's supermarket, i thought about the idea of a chinese rice porridge restaurant. rice porridge is a stable of a traditional chinese diet. the porridge itself is nothing special - just rice with enough water to make it soupy - but the assortment of side dishes is vast - pickled vegetables, braised fish, gluten, meat floss (rousong), etc. i'll explore this some more at some other time.

i had dinner in belmont. for a change, i did some cooking, made a pasta dish, but my father eventually took over (i did provide most of the ingredients and i did most of the chopping and assembling). i returned to cambridge in time to catch the 2nd half of the celtics-magic game. even though boston was down by 20+ points, they managed to come as close as 4 points in the final minutes. celtics ended up losing anyway because they couldn't capitalize on all the orlando turnovers.
