after mailing off some cd's to birmingham, i went to the cafe to visit my mother. today was a warm day, with temperature in the 60's, but the sky was overcast and looked like it might rain. once i came back home i went out for a run. i had steven johnson's "the ghost map" audio book on my mp3 player. books on tape seem to be the way to go because i was so engrossed with listening to the story i hardly noticed i was running. it also helped that the weather was nice so i wasn't struggling to stay warm.

in the evening i went to a harvard lecture titled "designing the urban ark: biodiversity and the future of cities" given by a woman who looked like ellen degeneres. it was a packed audience for some reason, possibly some local school group there on assignment. the talk was interesting even though it seemed to meander a bit. at the very least it gave me some food for thought if i ever needed to have a discussion about urban planning.

afterwards i rode to the supermarket to get some groceries (i had a craving for clam dip for some reason). i rarely venture out to market basket at night, and the dearth of customers was surprising but a welcomed relief from the usual crowd. my bag boy had a funny grin on his face, and i noticed the NCAA tournament bracket printout he had in his hand. earlier i'd just watched a video where obama filled out his own bracket. "obama picked UNC to win," i told the bag boy. he said he picked UConn. i wished him luck and left with my groceries in my backpack. for dinner, i ate some leftover my mother gave me from earlier in the afternoon.
