there's new plant activity in my indoor garden. i was surprised to find that some of the seedlings i planted 5 days ago had already sprouted. most of the giant thai hot peppers have emerged, and i relocated them from the dark guest bedroom to the well-lit grow closet. later i was surprised to see that the coreopsis (coreopsis tinctoria to be exact) had sprouted as well, since they weren't supposed to come out until after 7-30 days. judging from the seedlings, they were probably out yesterday, so it only took 4 days until germination. maybe it had something to do with 160 watts of light, since i put them in the closet due to lack of growing space. i'm still waiting for the tomatoes and the tomatillos to join the party.
some of the nasturtium flowers have transformed into nasturtium seed pods. they're not ripen yet, probably still a few more weeks. i wonder if my manual attempts at pollination had anything to do with it? occasionally i take a piece of tissue, roll it up into a wand, and swab the various flowers, imagining that i was a bee. also tonight i saw my first red nasturtium flower. there have been deep orange flowers that were close to red, but this was definitely red. unfortunately it doesn't photograph well (both orange and red look the same in photos) so no pictures.
for dinner i had some homemade meat buns my father dropped off earlier in the evening. i finished it off with a can of lychees from the fridge. my aunt returns from taiwan tonight, after a 2 month long vacation.
