a dreary rainy day, but at least it wasn't snowing like it was for our northern new england neighbors. with the weather so bad outside, it provided the perfect excuse to stay indoors and watch the noontime live stream pre-release of the new BSG season online. so did the show really jump the shark? the verdict is still out, too early to know. with not only starbuck back from the dead but not a scratch on her viper spacecraft, we're starting to enter the realm of fantasy, and the show may lose its realistic edge that distinguishes it from most other scifi programs.

in the late afternoon i went with my father to costco, just so i could pay a visit to the home depot next door to pick up some more fluorescent light bulbs. i bought a pair of daylight (6500K) bulbs ($7), split the kitchen & bath lights i currently have (3000K), and added another shoplight. this configuration gives my bottom shelf a whooping 160 watts of illumination, the most amount of indoor grow power i've ever had. the top shelf is still 80 watts, but it's basically been taken over by the nasturtiums at this point, and they're doing well enough that they don't seem to need anymore lights.
