most of my day was spent helping neighbors dig their cars out of the snow. i had nothing better to do and it was good exercise, despite the blisters on my hands. today was a warm thawing day, and if the cars aren't dug out now, they'll be stuck in place for a long time once everything refreezes later tonight. first i helped renee dig out her subaru. then i ran into my upstairs neighbor steve and i helped him dig out his jeep and station wagon (steve actually owns 3 cars; if the other neighbors found out about it, they'd lynch him). i worked up a sweat and started to stink a little inside of my puffy jacket. i was happy to take a well-deserved shower after i was done.
the following paragraph features graphic content, reader discretion is advised: i had to drain a boil near my armpit today. i've had it for about a week, wanted to go see a doctor, but figured all he was going to do was drain it, a simple procedure i could do at home. the boil was about the size of a macadamia nut. it looked sort of gross, but it didn't really hurt, until today that is. at first i tried poking at it with a plastic toothpick, but it wasn't sharp enough to puncture the skin. i then found a sewing needle. i sterilized it with some isopropyl alcohol and began the operation. i've always had a problem sticking myself with a needle. i remember in high school biology we did this blood type experiment, and i wasn't able to prick my thumb with the lancet. fast forward 15 years later and i still can't do it. finally though, after multiple tries, i managed to insert the needle. i won't bother describing what happened next. the boil is diminished but not gone; i may have to lance it one more time.
john got in touch with me tonight, wanted to know if i'd received my checks yet (not yet). i told him some gossip about a mutual friend of ours. for dinner i had some spicy sichuan ramen and then some rum raisin häagen-dazs ice cream for dessert.
