i went over to anne's place this morning to fix her computer issues again. her microsoft entourage address book still wasn't importing correctly into her webmail (imported the names but not the e-mail addresses) and she was having problems saving on her blog. the address book issue was finally solved by manually converting all the entourage addresses first into vcards (a simple drag and drop), then importing them into apple's own address book, before using a 3rd party application to export everything as a csv file for importing into webmail (being careful not to use excel, which strips out the invisible address book header from the csv file). at 1800+ contacts the list was too big for the server to process in one go and i had to manually break up the files into a dozen pieces. in all it took a grand total of 3 hours. in the end i was the only person in the house as anne left to take her grandson to a pool party.

having missed breakfast and lunch, i visited the cafe to get something to eat. that's when bruce called me with a strange request: he asked if he could borrow $400 in cash to do some discounted repairs on his car (his own bank had a $500 daily cash withdrawal). i didn't have that sort of liquid asset in my own bank account but i managed to borrow the money from my mother. back at home, i went over to bruce's place to deliver the money. back from the adirondacks, he showed me the 3 weeks old monarch butterfly caterpillar he was raising.

rest of the day i was held hostage by the weather. i knew early on that there'd be some thunderstorms today and was grateful i made it home before i could get soaked. however, the day hovered in a dark overcast, as if the weather itself couldn't decide whether it'd rain or not. i thought about going for a run but not if there was going to be a torrential downpour. finally the rain did come (no need to water the garden today) but not as much as predicted, and in hindsight it would've been a good day to do a bit of running.
