i had an elaborate plan to return to belmont in the evening and borrow my parents' car so i can go pick up the aquarium in wakefield, but fortunately julie was willing to offer me a ride. since it was still early, i went with her to watertown to visit ajax market, a middle eastern grocery store on mt.auburn street. i must've passed by this place a million times but never bothered to stop by and check it out. i think we need more ethnic super markets in the area, the more variety the better. it's also kind of fun trying to figure out what things are. afterwards we went to REI in reading, within striking distance of wakefield, the next town over. we stayed there for well over an hour, and i ended up the only one buying anything, the latest issue of national geographic adventure magazine (there was an article on yunnan that i wanted to read). while in the store i got a phone call from my parents, still in taiwan, at the airport about to leave for cambodia for a few days.
after i picked up the aquarium (which came with a bucket of miscellaneous fish tank equipment as well as a bag of aquarium gravel) we drove back to somerville and had dinner at a tibetan restaurant.
once i got back home, i cleaned out the dirty aquarium, which had previously been sitting in storage in a basement. i polished the glass tank until it was spotless. throughout the night i would come back and admire the empty aquarium, turning on the flourescent light, trying to imagine what i can put in it. if i have time tomorrow, i want to visit a pet store and see if i can get some more plants and an air pump (right now it just has an external filter and a heater).
