a tuesday that feels like a monday, that's what we get after a long weekend (non-massachusetts residents please note: yesterday was patriots' day, a state holiday). first order of business today was paying off my quarterly estimated taxes (as for my annual tax returns, i already did them back in february). i have to do this since as a freelance programmer the taxes don't get taken out of my paychecks and the government sort of want some of that hard-earned money instead of waiting next year. this was my first time paying quarterly taxes, and i do this not because of any compelling desire to enrich the government but rather because i don't want to pay another penalty (like i did this past year) for "underpayment." i didn't realize i also had to file estimated state taxes as well, but it was just a little bit more, nothing too serious. i went out to the post office to mail my returns. coming back i stopped off at joie de vivre to look for a birthday present for manny. i asked the store clerk for help and she recommended this stringless yo-yo that operates via magnets and centrifugal force - i was sold and bought one.

i did some work today but what i really wanted to do was to go running (while inspirational thoughts from yesterday's boston marathon was still fresh on my mind). i decided to go at the end of the day but by then it'd gotten cloudy and cold (temperature in the 40's) and somehow i didn't feel like going out anymore. my sister came by briefly to borrow one of my boston tour guide books and dropped off some presents from my godmother who recently came back from taiwan: a bag of haw flakes (in green, a most unusual color for haw) and an assortment of rubber cable turtles. i quickly put the turtles to use but the problem is i have too many cables, i'd need a box of cable turtles to organize that mess.

dumplings for dinner, with an evening lineup of a red sox game interjected with a fresh episode of teachers.
