for once i was happy that it was raining. the mushroom kit care instructions clearly states that tap water is no good for mushrooms because it contains chlorine that could kill the developing mycelium. they recommend rain water, well water, or boiled water. so today i was out in my backyard hanging around the storm drain collecting some rain water, feeling very one with nature.

my work is wearing me out. i went another 10 hours today, from morning until night, didn't even have any breakfast or lunch. by day's end i was shaking, too tired to be angry or fustrated, just lying in bed completely spacing out. i heated up the leftover vegetarian pizza from last night in the toaster oven and watched a few episodes of law & order: criminal intent. on a whim, i got dressed and went out for a walk to the 24-hour cvs in porter square to get some medicine.

i got my utilities bills today. $38 for electricity (the lowest it's been for the past 4 months, even though i've been working long hours at home), but a sticker shocking $180 for heat. all you folks living in heat-included apartments, how i envy you! the gas itself was just $130, but they added another $50 in distribution charges. i'm curious to see what it's going to be next month. heating bills fall to such extremes: if it's not hundreds of dollars during the cold winters, then it's just $10 during the hot summers.
