i woke up at 6:30am this morning to go use the bathroom. i quickly jumped back into bed, the whole time thinking, "oh my god, this is the best sleep i've had in days, please please please let it continue!" wouldn't you know it though, i couldn't fall asleep after that point. it didn't matter what position i was in, or whether i was on the cool or warm side of the bed - i just couldn't get back into sleep mode. so i spent the next 2 hours in a state of half-sleep, hoping that i'd eventually fall unconscious.

like most days the past few weeks, i started working as soon as i woke up. there was no immediate deadline, but i coded with the notion that whatever work i finished today meant less work tomorrow and the day after that. it's been 2 weeks and my processor upgrade from gigadesign still hadn't arrived yet, so i called them today out in california. turns out they're in the process of migrating their online store, and i was never informed that the card was back-ordered, but it shipped out finally a few days ago, and i could expect to see it arrive probably sometime tomorrow. my sister dropped by with some sugar pumpkins for the pie i'll be making for thanksgiving. with my parents not due back until december, it's only my sister and i who are doing thanksgiving this year. she also brought some dry cleaning (sweaters mostly) that'd been in storage at my parents' place. later in the day my friend beth called to inquire about my spare bedroom (she's looking for a place to stay for only a month) - i told her i wanted to live alone for the time being.

around 4pm i started making the michoacan beef. although the recipe didn't specifically ask for a crock pot (just simmer on low heat for 1.5 hours), i figured it'd be easier just to throw all the ingredients into one and let it stew for a few hours. julie arrived around 7pm. the dish (served with a mushroom pilaf) was okay but it seemed rather plain, lacking that certain flair. the nuggets of beef would better be served in some sort of pure soup dish, maybe something hearty with a handful of pasta. the weather was shockingly warm today, 70 degrees, but by nightfall it started raining and the temperature plummeted. julie showed me the rash on her arms that only appear if she runs hot water over them. noticing my pompadour, she said my hair is at that awkward stage where it stands up, becoming an afro.
