tonight i went to a last-minute party that rob and his three other roommates were hosting at their apartment in somerville. the rain was pretty intense and even though i thought i'd be late, i was the first guest to arrive. i brought a six-pack of harpoon root beer, but confused the heck out of people when they drank soda thinking it was beer. i found the roommates huddled in the dark living room, watching the baseball game with the sound off. the bad weather definitely had an adverse effect on the turnout, and for one reason or another, the ratio of female to male was also a little skewed (1 lady for every 5 guys). his roommates were interesting, the photographer, the college undergrad, the ringleader, like the cast of a sitcom. i took a few martini sips (nice and salty, but i dumped out the rest) when i wasn't nursing another root beer, spending most of my time in the kitchen by the oven (purposely left on to add some warmth to the otherwise cold apartment). rob's friend lee kept on trying to be my new roommate. there was a brazilian jewish guy there who dressed gay but wasn't. a big man who resembled francis ford coppola wandered around talking movies. some girls from brandeis showed up (surprisingly cute, there was some consensus against that possibility). rob's friend sarah came as well along with her friend andrew. as i was telling rob before i left, there's a party spectrum and it's interesting to see all sorts of parties, from absolute rockouts, to slightly somber sausage fests.

this morning started with me scrambling together all the computer parts to bring to the client presentation. dana came by to pick me up and together we drove into boston. the presentation would've been perfect were it not for the office firewall that disabled the e-mailing ability of the interactive we created. nevertheless, we got some feedback, packed everything back up, and dana drove me back home with the equipment. as soon as i got back i was working on my other project, the one that i spent all last night working on. i'd only slept for 3 hours and felt detached from reality. interestingly eough, that separation of the mind from body allowed me to focus more intensely and i finally wrapped everything up ahead of schedule, compressing and sending it out to the client via ftp.

my mother came by in the afternoon with some lunch and she waited for jawei to come home from his english class so we could go to the galleria mall and do some shopping. i ended up buying a south american & caribbean cookbook (borders) and a lilac-colored shirt (gap) while jawei bought several pairs of levi's. we bumped into 6-months-pregnant cymara, trying to use up a gap gift card. we got some takeout from the food court (indian and cajun, my mother didn't get anything because she said she couldn't eat with her toothache) then my mother dropped us back in cambridge. after dinner i was so sleepy that i actually took a 30 minute nap before waking up and heading out to rob's party.
