life is funny like that, opportunity knocks when you least expect it. i've been sort of stressed out about my prospects of finding a job by summer's end, so it came as a welcomed surprise this morning when i received an e-mail from liz to take on a project that'd be due this friday. it's a small contract but it'll be nice to have some money for bills. so for the rest of the day i spent in front of the computers, switching back and forth between my mac and the pc, kicking the kvm switch button on the floor with my toe. i haven't lingo'ed in a while but it's just like riding a bike, the rush of buried programming knowledge flooding back into my brain making me almost dizzy. time seemed to go by pretty fast and before i knew it was it already 6pm.

gardening news: squirrels have been digging in my vegetable pots! no plants were seriously harmed and they're big enough that they can't easily be uprooted, but it's kind of demoralizing to know that unless i safeguard my vegetables 24/7, there's just no way i can keep the squirrels away. it seems the older i get, the more i hate squirrels. a few years ago i battled with them over birdfeeders, and now the past few seasons it's been a war over my vegetables. i would seriously consider owning (or at least renting for the summer) a cat just so it'd keep the squirrels away.

manny came over in the evening with wings. it's been a tradition since college, and as much as we love wings, we also love talking about whether or not we'll get the runs afterwards. long story, but there was a period when everytime we had wings, one of us would suffer for it later (especially the gourmet wings, maybe all that cheese). i was able to finish all 10 wings for a change, and just one wing ahead of manny. manny left but not before spewing some trash talk against the red sox (he's a yankees fan). it didn't matter because the red sox ended up beating the indians, sweeping them in the series.
