the cambodian butterfly garden is probably worth skipping on your next trip to siem reap. i thought it was going to be this crazy butterfly sanctuary, but turns out it was just some guy's front yard converted into a garden with a net over it to keep the butterflies inside. i made the best of the situation and still managed to spend about an hour here, including breakfast (a crepe and a fruit shake). the butterflies are all the same, nothing spectacular, and the wild butterflies on the other side of the netting seemed to be prettier than the ones inside. leaving the butterfly garden, i saw a giant millipede crossing the road. after i picked it up (so it wouldn't get run over), it curled up as soon as i let it go.

i went to the old market, where photo opportunities are plentiful, but it's crazy trying to get snapshots when you're squeezed amongst the cambodian mass. i did manage to get a few shots, with the option of coming back again another day. i also bought a pair of tiny scissors to trim my goatee (getting crazy), i'm going to try and smuggle it through customs.

the rest of the afternoon i spent in angkor thom, just north of angkor wat, a huge compound with several temples scattered about. returning to siem reap, my driver and i discovered that we're both chinese and can speak mandarin, so we became new cambodian best friend forever. what's even more of a coincidence is his last name is yang as well!
