so i went to the chinese supermarket (that's the name of the place) this morning before work, formerly meitung supermarket. it had opened up the end of last week after a lengthy period of renovations, but today seemed like the official grand opening, with traditional chinese bouquet of flowers lining the streets outside the supermarket. it was insanely crowded, almost like a feeding frenzy, you'd think people had never been to a chinese supermarket before. meitung was always that quiet supermarket without the crowd where i'd come and get my chinese grocery fix, but with the grand opening, business looks to be heavy for the immediate future. the aisles were well stocked, and the freezer and produce sections had been increased in size. i was looking for congee, but bought some tom yum ramen and a pair of asian pears.

after a bowl of ramen and an asian pear, i went running with alex. the weather looked like it'd rain and we were both expecting to be soaked, but the storm never did come. the charles river was pretty empty, and we didn't speak much as we ran our 3 mile loop. it was quick and we were back at the office before i even knew what happened, sweating, waiting to dry off so i could change out of my running clothes.

it was a hard day, not so much the work, as i'm just restless and tired, counting the days until the weekend, the hours, the minutes. this time last summer, because of my unemployment, i'd be checking the weather daily, making plans to go to the beach on those perfect beach days, or take the bike, or go running. summers are hard to be sitting in an office 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. i see that wednesday is another one of those really good days for playing hooky, and it's killing me that i'll probably be at work.

when i came home, i ate an entire bag of potato chips (i didn't really have a good lunch, and this probably made it worse) before reheating the final portion of leftover hot and sour soup from last tuesday. i watched some evolution documentary on PBS and archives some photos on CD's.
