maybe your company gave you the day off today, the day after new year, but not so at my company, where all employees reported to battle stations, even though it was a dead day, a single day of work, friday, before the weekend started. i had on my red pants red shoes ensemble, it was all very matching, it hurt my eyes to look down. i yearned for a run, but the weather was not only raining, but freezing rain at that, so i was stuck at the office. the only time i went out was to briefly cross the street into chinatown to get some pastries for lunch. i stood behind two tourists trying to decide which pastries they wanted. i ignored them, pushed myself in front of the line, and ordered in chinese like a pro. i discovered www.slowwave.com, a website where this artist turns a user submitted dream into a comic strip every week, it's all very weird, it's all very funny. the hospital called me up, said they couldn't refill my prescription unless i booked an appointment with my doctor first since i haven't seen him for over 2 years. i tried to get the woman to give me enough hypertension pills to last until my appointment, but she wasn't authorized to do that. fortunately, i only have until tuesday to wait. in a sick way i hope i have a nondebilitating aneurysm (is that even possible?), so i can sue the hospital for negligence.
after work, i met bruce and jack at red bones in davis square. it was crowded and we waited 30 minutes before we got a table. we had fried okra for an appetizer, jack had the fish, bruce some ribs with his briskets, and i had the baby back ribs. for my money, i still think the best ribs i've ever had are either the ones i cook in the oven at home or from ground rounds. i find red bones ribs to be either too charred or too fatty. we walked home back to our neighborhood afterwards, the night was cold, made more so by heavily saturated air.

i watched a great show on showtime, dead like me, about a slacker girl who dies and becomes a grim reaper. i had heard about the show a while back, and thought i was watching something new, but it was actually the repeat of the pilot episode, with a total of 14 episodes having already aired. the main character, georgia, reminds me of eliza hoover for some reason. the show also features an electic cast, including mandy patinkin, jasmine guy, and rebecca gayheart. i also watched a segment on the food network about making mexican flan using condensed milk, real vanilla beans, and lime zest, worth a try the next time i make it.
