the only real thing i had to do today was to go out and buy a pair of hiking shoes, figuring that my non-waterproof ratty pair of blue adidas probably won't cut it in the jungle. my father needed a pair too, so the whole family including my sister came by in the afternoon to go shoe shopping. originally my sister wanted to drive up to l.l.bean in maine, but what's the point of driving so far to get shoes when we could just find in a store nearby? we ended up going to the REI store in reading, where i bought a pair of vasque, the talus GTX XCR, featuring: synthetic nubuck leather, nylon mesh fabric, contoured EVA footbed, nylon lining, EVA-lution midsole, revolution w/stealth rubber outsole, running last (what is that?), goretex, and padded collar. whatever happened to just a simple pair of shoes?
afterwards we went to costco, then back to belmont for dinner, wonton soup. i also helped my father troubleshoot why he couldn't send out e-mail via his verizon account but could still receive e-mail. i was on the phone with technical support for 30 minutes, and figured out the problem was with the router, at which point our conversation ended since they don't support 3rd party routers.
