when i arrived in boston this morning, i went to the starbucks by south station to get a large cup of chai. for some reason the alarm system was flashing within the building, but nobody seemed to be concerned, everyone going about their morning ritual, sipping coffee, reading the newspaper, eating a breakfast pastry. these patrons are a tough crowd! a cold winter morning is a good time for a warm cup of chai, even though today wasn't that cold, a seasonal 50 degrees. i always forget they put caffeine in chai so it's no surprise that i was jittery for the rest of the day, bouncing my knees, rearranging my computers, cleaning up my desk. not sure if it's the caffeine that allowed me to stay focus, but i had a really good day programming-wise, finished debugging the webcam capture code and put it up for testing as well as fixing everything on another bug list.

i went out to get another duplicate made for my house key, but the man at the key place told me to wait and basically ignored me while he tended to several other customers that came in after me. not like he's the only key maker in town, so i left his store. i went down to the outskirts of the south end, to the 88 supermarket, to buy some groceries, primarily ingredients for the thai red curry recipe i'll be making once again for tomorrow night. coming back, i stopped by my favorite chinese cafe and got the crispy pan fried noodles with duck, never had it before, thought i'd give it a try. when i got back to the office and opened up the container, i was faced with the daunting task of trying to eat this dense mass of food. i ate half, saving the rest for tomorrow.

i came home, the whole time thinking what i'll be making for dinner tonight. i flipped through a few cookbooks, still uninspired. i finally settled for an improvised recipe, i wanted pasta and meat and salad, and as long as i had all those three things, i didn't care how i cooked it. i went across the street to buy more groceries, then came home to make some shell pasta with a "sauce" of tiny beef cubes cooked in garlic and onion and spicy chinese oil served with a side dish of italian dressing salad. i called julie and invited her over, but when she arrived she wasn't hungry, having snacked all day at home. the final creation was acceptable, although i will probably never make it again. julie brought her laptop with her and worked on her somerville crime map while i watched the gilmore girls followed by 24. mike came home, and asked us directions to federal street in boston where he had to be tomorrow morning. julie didn't leave until she finished tracing out a map of somerville in illustrator, close to 2am, with a miserable wet and cold rain falling outside.

after she left, i brought out the trash and called it a night.
