i had columbus day off, so i drove up to newbury, massachusetts, and took in some wildlife, first at old town hill, a large piece of salt marsh crossed by tidal creeks (water swept marsh grass forming mohawks), then to plum island, where i saw more salt marshes as well as sand dunes. there wasn't much to see, autumn is all about dying, but at least the weather was nice, in the 70's with a clear blue sky. i brought along a bottle of snapple, a bag of beef jerky, and some trial mix. when i got back into town around 5pm, mandy was already there, spending the night at my place in cambridge after getting the keys from my father to get into the house. i went to go see school of rock with renata in the evening, who was surprised that i could even make it since game 4 was happening at the same time. the screening room was noisy with tweens, apparently school of rock scores a hit with that demographic. it was a funny cute movie, but i was so afraid that somebody in the school would find out that jack black was a fraud and expose him, destroying the dream of rock and roll, that i wasn't able to completely relax and enjoy the fantasy. after the movie i came back home to watch the red sox beat the yankees, series tied 2-2.
