i slept 8 hours last night. i still felt sleepy this morning, but forced myself to wake up at 10am so i could go out for a run. my legs were on autopilot, i quickly ran around the river and came back home. after a shower, lisa, my former programming compadre from srm, dropped by. she wanted to learn about how i was setting up my php to interface with the mysql database for my weblog. there was a brief awkward moment when i got caught surfing the web for alyssa milano photos, "you might not want to look at my screen for a second," i told lisa. after walking her through my setup (random note: she noticed my recent string of grey postings)), we out to union square for lunch, this newly discovered korean place (not wuchon) i wanted to try. we both got the bulgoki box lunch special (i wanted kalbi, but they were out). the food was good, but nothing special, a rather sparse box lunch presentation: bulgoki with sesame seeds and scallions, three california sushi, two fried dumplings, rice, and a salad with thousand island dressing. the miso soup came shortly after our box lunches, along with three dishes of korean kimchi: turnip, cucumber, and cabbage. for a more in-depth comparison of local korean box lunch specials, read last month's entry. we were the only non-korean patrons, there were four other tables besides us. lisa ended up paying for my lunch as a "thank you" for giving her some php/mysql advice, then drove me back to my place.

i tried to take a nap again, but my mother and sister dropped by, bringing with them some household items they've bought for me, including a freestanding toilet paper holder, some cedar hangers for my wardrobe, and some grocery items (they were coming back from the 88 supermarket). they brought some dusters for me to clean up my place with, and i went around the house with a hand-held "mop" capturing all the dust. while my sister was rearranging my lisianthus flowers, my mother was busy organizing the mess that is my bedroom. they also brought me dinner, and left with instructions as how i should go about preparing tonight's meal.

bruce instant messaged me about going over to see his chrysalis, promising more pants this time. it was amazing, the smaller of the two caterpillars, "junior junior", was already bigger than when i saw it yesterday, less than 24 hours ago. its antennas had grown out some more, looked little a multi-striped miniature twinkie with a pair of black prongs on each end. it didn't seem to be moving much, rather docile, just quietly sitting there, although there were signs of activities, like holes in the leaf and caterpillar poop at the bottom of the jar. next came the highlight of the show-and-tell. what was just a fat caterpillar last night ("junior") was now a beautiful green colored chrysalis, detailed with flecks of gold. bruce told me that when a caterpillar transforms into a chrysalis, the caterpillar "splits" open, shedding its skin, revealing the chrysalis underneath. the molted skin was still visible on junior's chrysalis. jack came home before i left, but not before i told them about that gay reality based dating show, boy meets boy, and potential internet access options for bruce once he goes back to pittsburg.

dinner, leftover chinese meatballs with some rice, followed by a red sox game, followed by the sweet release of another night of early sleep. tomorrow afternoon i'll be on a bus to randolph, vermont, for a few days of rest, relaxation, and work.
