the weather today was cold and grey, thoroughly uninspiring, seemingly sucking the life out of the day as soon as i woke up this morning. i had some rice noodles for lunch and parked myself in front of the computer doing the usual. i aimed carrie, who told me she was at her first nba game last night. we were both there and we didn't even realize it! around 3pm my father came by to give me a ride to needham to fan susu's tailor shop, where i had a pair of pants and a suit that needed a little tailoring. the suit he said was too much work to alter, but the pants he hemmed right on the spot. we went to the back of the store where they do all their work, sewing machines, racks of different colored threads, steam press machine, a bag of scrap fabric, it was pretty interesting. tailoring is one of those jobs that's independent of the current economic condition. everyone needs tailoring work, just like everyone needs haircuts. i got a ride back to cambridge, then waited for manny to show up with the wings. we were going to do wings tuesday, but he had wedding invitations to do, so then we bumped it to last night, but i canceled last minute so i could go to the celtics game with julie, and now finally tonight we were able to make it happen. before manny left, i asked him about taxes, and he said he was getting money back, while i told him i'd be down almost two large in the hole. he said he'd let me borrow his taxing software, to clear up a potential snafu in my paper calculations.
