i am at my house in cambridge right now, spending the night for the very first time. it's like camping, because the place still doesn't feel like home, feels more like i'm roughing it for a day. patchy walls, sheetrock dust on the floor, various equipment and supplies strewn about the floors, it's more like a construction sight than home. i'm sitting ergonomically incorrect on a dining room chair with my laptop on a coffee table, illuminated by the only freestanding table lamp in the house, a meager 25w of illumination, more like a candle than a good source of lighting (the house is seriously lacking in night time lighting, the construction guys pulled out most of the lights when they redid the ceilings). this living room will feel much better with a nice couch to lounge on and a bigger tv (i'm using a spare 13" right now). maybe a nice rug too. i cooked my first dinner tonight, if you can call it cooking, fixed up a toaster oven pizza. later, i'm taking my first shower. earlier before it got dark i walked over to the star market and got some more supplies including some more food and bathroom items like shampoo and floss. coming back i heard high pitched chirping in the air and saw bats flittering in the dusky sky catching insects. 24 hours later, by body is reeling from the injuries i suffered yesterday. as predicted, woke up with a huge painful bruise on my groin, mostly red with areas of dark purple where i got hit the hardest. i discovered a few other unreported injuries, my left hip and left ankle hurt from hitting on the ground - basically the entire left side of my body is damaged. i also have some pains from where i was sitting on the bike before i fell. i walk around with an awkward limp, my bike injury combining with my previously injured right leg. i have no curtains in the house, i feel like anyone can just look inside and spy on me. it's weird living so close to my neighbors. having lived in the suburbs for most of my life, the idea of being able to look right outside my window and into my neighbor's house is completely alien to me. i brought with me a stack of books for entertainment, i figured it'd be an early night for me, the living room not comfortable enough for a prolonged stay, i'm more use to watching tv lying flat in bed, not sitting up (or in my case, slouching) in a chair.

this morning i got a ride from manny to go have lunch with david and his wife sarah and their 3 year old son ben. dave was in town for a wedding, was going back to jersey today but not before paying us a visit. manny first took me to his office in waltham, then we headed over to the pizzeria uno where we were meeting the aronows and our mutual friend tiffany. it was a tufts reunion of sorts. there was a lot of nerdy computer science talk (i quietly refrained from joining in, not because i think i'm above it all, but i really had no idea what they were talking about, all java and jbscript), which is ironic because none of us were cs majors back in school, but all ended up doing programming for a living nevertheless.

afterwards, i went to go see an open house with manny, a 1200 square feet somerville town house. i came back home and fell asleep in bed, mistakingly lying in the sun (today was a hot 90+ degrees). i woke up all sweaty and then i came over to the house.

tomorrow morning i'm meeting an electrician 9am (that's one of the reasons why i'm here tonight). right now i'm watching celebrity shark week on the discovery channel, gabrielle reece diving with sharks. after it's all over, i'm hitting the shower and going to bed.
