everyone left after work except for todd and myself, staying late in the office to burn cd's for the delivery. that's the worst time for me during a project, when i'm the last man standing, i get this irrational sense of abandonment. i know that even if people stayed, nobody could really help, but still, i can't help but to feel a little bit resentful. however, the feeling usually only lasts for one night, and then by the next morning it's completely gone. tonight, i couldn't go home even if i wanted to because of the heavy thunderstorm outside. fortunately, it was only a brief passing system, and eventually it cleared up enough for me to climb aboard my rainsoaked motorcycle and ride home. although it wasn't raining anymore, there were still deep puddles of water to negotiate. in a car you don't really notice, but on a motorcycle exposed to the elements, riding through a puddle isn't such a simple matter. whenever i came to a stop, water on the hot engine would steam up, giving the appearance that there was something wrong with the motorcycle because it was smoking.

i found my parents barbecuing again, in the backyard, in the rain. apparently the bad weather didn't seem to faze them, the primal desire to have barbecued meats and vegetables too great to overcome.

after dinner i drove to beacon hill to pick up andrew morse, whom i haven't seen in over a year. we went over to dave fitzgerald's house, another friend of mine whom i haven't seen in over two years. i'm a bad friend. i'm the kind of friend you have to call occasionally and make the effort to stay in touch, because god knows i can't do it on my own. we were there to watch the celtics-nets game. unfortunately the celtics lost (although they made a valiant 3rd quarter comeback), now the series is at 3-2 in new jersey's favor. friday night the battle continues here in boston. i'm keeping an open mind. i personally think the lakers won't make it out of the western conference, and whoever wins in the east will face the sacramento kings. if the nets should beat the celtics, i'm rooting for them just so that i know the celtics were at least beaten by the team to eventually win the nba championship. after the game i drove andrew back home, where he told me he got a job at price-waterhouse, but he's taking 6 months off before he starts working in november.

at least the heavy downpour will give the garden a good soaking. some of the plants did look a little bit dry a few days ago. not anymore after today. the rain will also wash away all the incriminating evidence of ice cream drips and chocolate sprinkles that fell from my soft serve cone today when i sat outside eating my cold dessert with eliza laughing hysterically at what a mess i was making.
