i'm on page 202 right now. i read an excerpt on some chuck palahniuk website and i just had to get the book. the author of fight club writes in an amazing style. It's violent, it's perverse, it's weird, it's funny. fast-paced, sometimes rambling, it's a perfect read for contemporary readers with short attention spans. after i read this one, i feel like i have to read all of his stuff now. i don't have many favorite modern day authors, but i think chuck palahniuk goes right up there with mark leyner, someone else who writes in the same style, just not as visceral.

i've got about 100 more pages to go (if i'm up to it, i'll finish it tonight, just some subversive bedtime reading), and i already know what book i'll be reading next: take the cannoli: stories from the new world by sarah vowell. i saw her last night on conan, i thought she was so funny and smart, it'd be fun to reading some of her collected essays.

don't get me wrong. i am not a book reading kind of guy! when i do read, it either has to be very strange or very funny. i don't read any sad stories, i don't read any long drawn-out dramas. my usual genre is either scifi or horror, but i haven't touched a genre book in quite some time. occasionally i will dabble in some history, but i have the hardest time finishing those kind of books because i usually lose interests and just skim to the good parts, which are either the wars or any scandals.
